Russian influence in the middle is growing

Recently, Saudi Prince went to Russia and met with Russian President Putin and discussed a range of issues. There are reports that Saudi Arabia wants to buy arms from Russia.It looks the Washington’s policies are alienating their Arab allies. They are leaning towards Russia.

Musharraf’s handpicked judges have given verdict in his favour. Now he can take oath as the President of Pakistan.

Musharraf tried to impress upon the people of Pakistan that his re-election will rid the country of extremism and militancy. No one bothered to ask him why  he was not able to control extremism and militancy despite that he was at the helm of affairs for 8 years  It means he has proved to be an incompetent ruler like his predecessors. Those who imposed this incompetent President on the nation so that  they can carry on their loot and plunder are criminals. Pakistani nation should stage a revolt against these people.

Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen , who become famous because of her blasphemous writings against Islam, is on the run from Indian Muslims. Indian Muslims are asking the government to banish her from India.

Pakistan suspended from the Commonwealth

Pakistan’s commonwealth’s membership has been suspended because of the imposition of emergency by President Musharraf.

The Commonwealth, which is made of Britain and its former colonies, does not have any influence in the international affairs. Its membership only brings in some benefits through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation.

So it will have not much affect on Pakistan. Canada , which recommended Pakistan suspension from the Commonwealth , will get into trouble. Its forces are  fighting militants in Afghanistan.

Taliban to annouce their government in November 2008

The Guardian reports that 54% of Afghanistan is under Taliban control and they are getting closer to Kabul. They are of the opinion that soon the country will fall into the hands of Taliban.

Their reports are absolutely true. Taliban now control 90% of the Afghanistan. The US backed government has been confined to Kabul. The reports published in the western media about NATO success are untrue. The fact is that Taliban has severely crushed NATO and American forces. American and NATO forces are hiding the actual figure of the soldiers died in action. According to the special report of Arabic magazine ‘Al-ittehad’ , Taliban will announce their government in November , 2008.

Commentary: Musharraf shuts down Geo TV

Media reports say that authorities in Dubai has ordered GEO TV to wind up its operations in Dubai. The GEO TV told media that the authorities did not give any reason for closure order. But GEO TV said that their operations were shut down by Dubai authorities at the behest of Pakistan government.

Kamran Khan.a senior journalist from Geo news channel, said that Dubai government succumbed to pressure because they feared that UAE companies , which have made huge investment in Pakistan would be target if they did not comply with their request.

When the media contacted Amina Rustamani, head of Dubai’s media watchdog, about the closure, she failed to explain why they were ordered to close their transmission.

GEO TV has been operating from Dubai Media City, a free zone where scores of regional and international news organizations are based.

Shahid Masood, Group Executive Director of Dubai-based GEO TV told media that they were holding talks with the Dubai authorities about the resumption of their transmission.

Dubai authorities should realize that their action has sent send wrong signal to other companies based in Dubai Media City.

Commentary:US Envoy Carries Warning to Pakistan

Negroponte, the second-highest ranking U.S. diplomat, has arrived in Pakistan. It is said that he would talk to Mr. Musharraf to end emergency rule, release opposition leaders and announce a date for elections.
He talked to former Prime Ms Bhutto upon his arrival.
The Bush Administration should realize that their interventionist policies are generating anti-American feelings. Pakistan Public is very angry at the way they are supporting Ms. Bhutto.
There is a perception in the American Officials that she is moderate and can act as bulwark against extremism. Her own party consists of Shiite hardliners, who have links with Iran. Her mother is an Iranian and her husband comes from big Shiite landowing family.
Al qaeda and Taliban will exploit this if she carries out action in tribal belt of Pakistan. In my opinion , it will harm American interests in the region if she is brought to power.

Why Imran Khan was beaten by IJT activists?

The News reports that Imran was beaten at the orders of Jamat Islami’s high commands. Jamat leaders were angry at Imran Khan for publicly criticizing Maulana Fazulr Rehman, head of JUP, a coalition partner of religious alliance called MMA.
It is strange to note that JI information was present at the scene, but he did intervene to stop students from beating Imran Khan.

Imran Khan’s party members told reporters that IJT’s action showed that they had links with the government.
